GHL’s Big Plans for Holiday Park

Gisborne’s tourism potential is about to get an $8 million-dollar injection with a proposed four-year development of the Waikanae Beach Top 10 Holiday Park.

Gisborne Holdings Ltd, who own the park, announced details of the plan to Gisborne District Council yesterday.

GHL’s general manager Matt Feisst says the investment aligns with the organisation’s strategy.

“It’s about growing GHL by investing into our locally-owned and operated activities,” said Mr Feisst. “This is going to be a great asset for Gisborne when it is complete. We are all excited about the potential for growth of the business and the flow-on effects for the community.”

The project includes new and upgraded accommodation, a pool, a new entrance, landscaping and more. Work on the first stage is set to start shortly.

The Waikanae Beach Top 10 Holiday Park manager Matt Moore is also looking forward to the improvements.

“There have not been any new units or accommodation added to the park in more than 30 years,” he says. “When you consider the Waikanae Beach Top 10 Holiday Park injects $6.4 million a year into the Gisborne economy, it is a major tourism contributor to the region.

“We have been collecting guest feedback for years and the two most requested items are a swimming pool and rooms with sea views. We are very excited to finally be able to provide these for our guests.”

Statistics show that holiday park visitors are worth more than more than $1 billion annually to New Zealand, according to research carried out for Holiday Parks New Zealand.
